“The Donbas battalion moved additional units to Shirokino village as part of a planned rotation of the Azov regiment, and now secures the whole area,” a report on the unit’s Facebook page said.
Donbas battalion commander Semyon Semenchenko confirmed the information.
“Shirokino is now under Ukrainian forces’ control. We sent in additional reinforcements, and earlier reports circulated by the media and social networks are not true. Everything is being done as part of a planned rotation of our forces,” Semenchenko wrote on his Facebook page.
Earlier reports said that several members of the Azov volunteer battalion had taken over an OSCE observation point stationed outside Shirokino village to regularly monitor the situation in the zone of the Ukrainian military conflict.
