A statement of Ukraine’s Deputy Prosecutor General Vladimir Guzyr, where the tragic events in Odessa, on May 2, 2014 were not considered an act of violence, is contrary to reality, the German newspaper “junge Welt” wrote.
In his article, Reinhard Lauterbach wrote that people jumping from the windows out of the burning building, were beaten to death with metal bars, a fact that was confirmed by several witnesses at the scene.
The author also pointed out that despite all the evidence, Ukrainian investigators found no signs of a violent death on the bodies of those people killed in the House of Trade Unions fire. Ukraine’s Deputy Prosecutor General Vladimir Guzyr stated that "the cause of the fire was the use of flammable mixtures," and activists who barricaded themselves in the building, created a "chimney effect" that contributed to the spread of fire.
The author believes that the attempts to conceal the real facts serve the interests of the current Ukrainian authorities. He also criticized Kiev's version, according to which those who died during the fire in the House of Trade Unions were not Ukrainian citizens but provocateurs from Russia and Transnistria. He noted "that the victims had been identified and were residents of Odessa and the surrounding region."
Dozens of activists, protesting against the Maidan events, were killed on May 2 during a fire in the House of Trade Unions building in Odessa. The building is assumed to have been set on fire by members of the radical right-wing group “Right Sector”. According to the latest reports, about 48 people were killed and 214 injured in the massacre.
