The 31st European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships ended on May 3 in Minsk, Belarus. The Russian women’s team successfully opened the upcoming season of major international tournaments. They scored six gold medals and one silver medal having won the unofficial team event.
The tournament took place at the Minsk-Arena on May 1-3.

Gymnasts from more than 37 countries competed in the tournament.

In the individual competition, Russia was represented by seniors Yana Kudryavtseva, Margarita Mamun and Aleksandra Soldatova.

The Russian juniors’ team consisted of Angelina Shkatova, Maria Kravtsova, Anastasia Kalabina, Ekaterina Fyodorova, Irina Shilokhvost, and Ksenia Polyakova.

Margarita Mamun won gold and silver medals in the hoop and ball competitions respectively.

The seniors competed in the team scoring as well as in four types of exercises – hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon.

On May 1-2, the Russian athletes led all the four disciplines. They reached finals as well as won the team competition having leapfrogged the Belarusian and Ukrainian teams.

Yana Kudryavtseva won all three individual competitions of the tournament.

The next major tournament for the Russian team will be the first European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Irina Viner-Usmanova, head coach of the Russian national team, said the victory at the championship is devoted to the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
