WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Boston Marathon Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev burst into tears in the Boston court when his aunt took the witness stand, according to local media reports.
“[D]zhokhar Tsarnaev, who has remained impassive throughout his federal death penalty trial as the horrors of the 2013 terror attack portrayed, appeared to shed tears Monday as one of his aunts broke down on the witness stand,” The Boston Globe reported.
Tsarnaev’s aunt Patimat Suleimanova struggled with her emotions on the witness stand so much that she was unable to testify, according to local media.
“When the trial broke for lunch, she [Shakhruzat Suleimanova] stretched herself over a wooden railing toward him [Tsarnaev],” local media said.
While Tsarnaev was led out of the courtroom with US Marshals escorting him, he stopped and looked at Shakhruzat Suleimanova, and blew her a kiss.
The rest of the day did not see the return of Patimat Suleimanova to the stand, but did include a recollection by one of Suleimanova’s daughters, stating Tsarnaev was always a very sensitive child, weeping while watching the animated film “The Lion King.”
On April 15, 2013, three people were killed and more than 250 injured after Dzhokar, along with his elder brother Tamerlan, planted two bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Tamerlan was killed in a shootout with police days after the bombing.
