New Report Claims Buk Missile Deployed by Kiev's Forces Downed MH17

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Malaysia Airlines' flight MH17 that crashed in southeastern Ukraine in July 2014 was shot down by a Buk surface-to-air missile from a location where Kiev's Buk systems were stationed, a report by Russian military engineers obtained by Russia's Novaya Gazeta newspaper said.

On July 17, 2014, Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, crashed near Donetsk, killing all 298 people on board. Kiev forces and independence supporters have repeatedly blamed each other for the tragedy.

"The most likely reason for the destruction of Malaysia Airlines' Boeing-777 (MH17) in the air was the impact of a 9М38М1 antiaircraft guided missile from a Buk-M1 missile system," the document, which was published untouched by Novaya Gazeta on Tuesday, says.

The report claims that the area over which the plane was shot down was the spot where Ukraine's Buk missile systems were stationed.

According to the newspaper, this document is to be sent to Dutch specialists investigating the incident.

The investigation into the crash is headed by the Dutch Safety Board. According to a September preliminary report, the plane was hit by multiple high-energy objects causing it to break up in mid-air. The final report on the crash is due by October 2015.
