MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Earlier in the day, the European Commission unveiled its Digital Single Market Strategy, aimed at creating a single digital market for online services and goods across the 28 EU member states.
The Commission announced plan to review its e-Privacy Directive, building on the new EU data protection rules, due to be adopted by the end of 2015.
According to the EU Commission, the 16-step Digital Single Market strategy purposes to make EU goods and services more competitive online and protect consumers' rights across Europe.
The single strategy is expected to harmonize regulations for online goods and services across the European Union and to increase the potential of the EU digital economy.
The European Commission revealed the strategy almost a week after it decided to launch a probe into such US tech giants as Amazon and Google to see if they have exploited their dominant position in the EU market.
