The scandal erupted after the council in the marginal Darlington seat confirmed reports that the name of UKIP's David Hodgson was missing from ballot papers.
The council's spokesperson said the voting was still going ahead after this error was confirmed. Authorities said the incorrect ballot papers made up only 0.1 percent of the total number. "As soon as the issue was identified, corrected ballot papers were issued to the polling station concerned," the statement said.
Britons went to the polls on Thursday to vote in the general election. A total of 650 Westminster seats, as well as some 9,000 in local councils are up for grabs.
