ANKARA (Sputnik) — Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz refuted the allegations by the opposition Republican People's Party's (CHP) on the impeding military operation in Syria by recommending to either disclose the source of information or check the data thoroughly, local media reported Thursday.
Earlier in the day, CHP Secretary General Gursel Tekin said in an interview with the newspaper Taraf that Turkey is poised to send Turkish ground forces to Syria's north within a day or two, citing a "reliable" source.
"My advice to Gursel Tekin is to either reveal his source or re-examine it," Yildiz said at a press conference.
Commenting on the possible reasons of the move, CHP spokesman Levent Gok told Sputnik Radio that the offensive might be carried out to either postpone the June 7 general elections or divert the public's attention away from Turkey's domestic issues.
Syria has been in a state of civil war for the past four years. Government forces have been clashing with armed rebel groups, including Islamic State (ISIL) jihadists, which are fighting to overthrow Syrian President Bashar Assad.
