MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The head of British Liberal Democrats Nick Clegg has managed to retain his seat in the Sheffield Hallam constituency despite concerns he would not make it.
Clegg garnered 22,215 votes, however, overall, the Liberal Democrats have shown poor results in the UK Thursday general election, securing only 10 seats in the British Parliament, according to exit poll results.
"It is now painfully clear that it has been a cruel and punishing night for Liberal Democrats," Clegg said, adding that he will make further remarks about his future and the figures of the party later in the morning on Friday.
