MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Ukraine is unlikely to formally quit the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), although it had de-facto suspended its membership by refusing to make contributions into the common budget, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said Friday.
“At present, the Ukrainian side has de-facto wound up its participation in CIS activities, it does not finance the common budget,” the Belarusian leader said at the informal CIS summit currently under way in Moscow.
“At the same time, we should not expect that Ukraine will quit CIS,” Lukashenko went on.
