LONDON (Sputnik), Daria Chernyshova — Undecided voters have had a surprisingly significant influence on the outcome of the May 7 general election in the United Kingdom, Jean Lambert, a member of the European Parliament for the London region told Sputnik Friday.
"I think what was missed in this election, was maybe just how much influence undecided voters would have," Lambert, who is also a member of the Green Party of England and Whales said.
The parliamentarian added that she herself was surprised to find out the election results.
"I thought the SNP would get fewer seats, I thought Labour would have more in Scotland, be more varied, but when you look at the campaign that Labour ran, it was disappointing… It is very difficult to see why people would have shifted to the Labour Party from the Conservatives in this election," Lambert said.
As final vote count results showed, the Conservatives won 331 seats (or 36.9 percent of the ballot) in the British parliament and the Labour got only 232 seats (30.4 percent), despite numerous polls predicting a tight race among the two parties.
According to British media, in the morning of the election day, more than 10,000 undecided voters across the United Kingdom entered a question "Who should I vote for?" in Google search.
