WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents acted with exemption from oversight in the shooting death of an African American man in Detroit, advocacy group Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality spokesperson Ron Scott told Sputnik.
“ICE operates with impunity of oversight,” Scott said on Friday. “We are concerned a similar task force could occur in anyone’s home.”
Scott said the Detroit Coalition has argued Kellom’s home was invaded without presumption of a warrant.
“We want answers, want an autopsy, want to make sure there’s oversight of ICE, want to stop spend federal dollars to get a federal investigation and want the ICE person fired,” Scott said. “They [ICE agents] are still working somewhere, and we [Coalition] want special agents looking into it.”
Scott added that the Detroit Coalition is demanding a public meeting with the special agent in charge and ICE to uncover what went wrong in the encounter that led to Kellom’s death.
“These [ICE] multi-jurisdictional task forces are a threat to the freedom of every American,” Scott said. “What we are fighting for is our basic fundamental human rights as Americans.”
Scott concluded the incident should not have happened, because Kellom was only 20-years-old when he was shot multiple times and was about to see the birth of his daughter.
