Mothers are starting to arrive in DC from around the country, uniting under the hashtag #MillionMomsMarch to highlight violence perpetrated by police on young African-American males. "We are here today because we feel our country does not love us."

Mothers for Justice United, the leading organization, was founded by Maria Hamilton after the death of her son Dontre at the hands a Milwaukee police officer in April of last year.

"We are a group of mothers whose children were taken from us by police and racist vigilante violence," they say on their website. "Together we fight for justice for our children and for our communities."

"For every individual killed, there is a mother who has suffered a loss greater than any one person should have to bear," the Mothers for Justin United website reads. "We, the mothers of this movement, are calling on all concerned community members to join us in our fight."

Several mothers and other family members of black men who died at the hands of police announced the event in St. Louis together last month.
