"About 20 million people in Russia participated in the celebrations, devoted to the glorious anniversary of the Great Victory," Alekseeva said, adding that some three million people took part in the Victory Day events in Moscow only.
There were about 14,000 commemorating events in more than 6,000 localities across Russia, the statement said.
This weekend, Moscow held its largest-ever military parade to honour the memory of those who fought in the war against fascism. About 30 heads of world's states and governments attended the celebrations in the Russian capital.
