German official and arms expert Dieter J. warned there was an unsuitable material used in the production of the G36 assault rifle nearly a decade ago, but was considered “crazy” and transferred to lower job positions, the German magazine “Focus” wrote.
In 2008 and 2010, the Office even launched a "psychiatric-psychological investigation" into the "state" of its employee, to which he successfully stood up in front of the Administrative Court of Koblenz.
"They just wanted to declare me crazy,” Dieter J. told "Bild am Sonntag.”
A recent study commissioned by the Ministry of Defense revealed serious shortcomings in the mass-produced G36 assault rifle. According to the study results, the rifle tends to heat up during continuous fire and becomes incapable of hitting targets past 200-300 meters.
The German Bundeswehr has already found serious defects in its armored vehicles and the new problem with the G36 assault rifle may be a serious blow for the German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen as the German parliament had to cancel G36 rifle orders due to their inefficiency.
