A nation-wide referendum on voting, political party funding and the tax code will be held in Poland after the results of first of Presidential election are known, Polish President Bronisław Komorowski told journalists.
“I am confident that once the public opinion is mobilized changes can be made fairly quickly” said the president.
According to Komorowski, the idea of these reforms existed for a while in the presidential palace, but the events of the previous night showed that the referendum on these three issues should be carried out in the near future.
In Poland the president is elected by the general public. The election is held via secret ballot with the candidate standing for a five year term with reelection to occur only once.
A Polish citizen, who is no less than 35 years of age, may apply for presidential candidacy.
