The Lithuanian Defense Ministry reported that jet fighters of the NATO Air Force escorted two Russian An-22 military transport aircraft.
The escorted An-22 military transport planes were flying according to the previously agreed plan from the Kaliningrad region to mainland Russia, Donatas Sukhotskis, spokesperson for the United Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, said.
According to him, the transmitter of one of the planes was switched off while the other was on.
The two planes were in radio contact with ground services.
Earlier, the Latvian Armed Forces said in tweet that NATO Baltic Air Policing jets scrambled to intercept a Russian Antonov An-22 heavy military transport plane flying over the Baltic Sea close to Latvian airspace.
