ATHENS (Sputnik) — During his visit to Moscow in early April, Tsipras said that the Greek side had accepted the proposal by Russian president to take part in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, an annual international conference dedicated to global and regional economic issues.
On Sunday, Greek parliament confirmed that Tsipras would head the Greek delegation.
"A meeting between Tsipras and Putin is on the forum's agenda. We hope that this meeting gives an impetus for further development of the relations between Russia and Greece," the source told RIA Novosti.
Moscow and Athens stepped up bilateral cooperation after the left-wing Syriza party led by Tsipras had come to power in Greece in January, 2015.
During his April meeting with Putin, Tsipras said that Russia and Greece must kick-start bilateral relations to ensure stability and safety in the region.
