WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Zimmerman was released from a Lake Mary, Florida hospital after being slightly cut by glass from his vehicle’s windshield.
Monday’s events are still being investigated, but local police said the altercation involved Matthew Apperson, who accused Zimmerman in September 2014 of threatening to kill him.
Zimmerman did not fire any shots in the incident, according to local media.
Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman, was acquitted in 2013 of second-degree murder for the killing of Martin in February 2012. The shooting and subsequent acquittal prompted widespread outrage and media attention in the United States.
Since being acquitted, Zimmerman has faced several accusations. In January 2015, his girlfriend accused him of assault but did not file charges. In November 2013, Zimmerman was arrested for domestic violence after his girlfriend called the police, but again no charges were filed.
