BRICS is the acronym for an interstate association of Russia, Brazil, India, China and South Africa, accounting for 14.6 percent of the world's GDP.
"We are trying to forge ties with the BRICS group, and of course it depends on the BRICS what cooperation we will be offered. Greece is not big enough to become a member of the group but it can cooperate with BRICS, and we want such cooperation," Trigazis told RIA Novosti.
He added that Syriza, as a leftist party, does not want to see US global "hegemony" and welcomes initiatives to counter its dominance.
"The dollar still rules the world. BRICS do the right thing by creating their own bank to prevent a war of currencies. Now a currency war is under way, and is generally led by the United States," Trigazis said.
The agreement on the bank's creation was signed in mid-2014 and established a $100-billion reserve currency pool to maintain the financial stability of BRICS member states.
