WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The $199 million sale of 48 Harpoon missiles will contribute to the foreign policy of the United States by supporting an ally in the Western Pacific, DSCA added.
“Japan intends to use the Harpoon Block II missiles to supplement its existing Harpoon missile capability,” DSCA said.
“This sale will strengthen the capabilities of the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force and enhance its interoperability with US Naval forces.”
The Harpoon missile is a low-flying anti-ship missile deployed on naval vessels. The missile has land strike capabilities against defenses, surface-to-air missiles and port facilities.
