The project, alongside other major long-pending contracts, has been cleared by the defense acquisitions council chaired by Indian Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar.
The helicopters will reportedly be assembled in India.
An agreement to assemble 400 Russian Mi-17 and Kamov-226T helicopters annually in India with the possibility of exporting them to third party countries was agreed in principle at a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December, during the Russian leader visit to New Delhi.
