“We had an exchange [of opinions] on macro-economic parameters and on the current [financial] situation. This is not quite the financial dialogue that the United States and Russia had before, but is somewhat similar. We hope that this will be renewed,” Storchak told journalists in Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi.
Storchak said that the US representatives were optimistic in renewing financial dialogue again with Russia.
“[My] colleagues said that they would be happy to renew full-fledged financial dialogue that was seen before on various levels,” Storchak added.
Storchak said that meetings were also held with representatives from Switzerland, Bulgaria, and Romania on the sidelines of the forum in Tbilisi.
Russia-US cooperation has been very limited recently due to a cooling in relations between the nations, as both Washington and Moscow have blamed each other for the turmoil in eastern Ukraine. The United States slapped Russia with several rounds of economic sanctions for stirring tensions in Ukraine. Russia has repeatedly denied the accusations and has responded with its own ban on food imports from the United States and its allies.
On Tuesday, US Secretary of State John Kerry visited the Russian city of Sochi to meet top Russian officials for talks, which was widely seen as an important signal from Washington. It was Kerry’s first visit to Russia in two years.
