LIMA (Sputnik) – Russia and Peru are holding talks on modernizing T-55 tanks in Peru’s military service but the two countries are not planning any new purchase contracts, a deputy director of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation told RIA Novosti on Friday.
“The topic of purchasing new tanks has been repeatedly discussed with the Peruvians, but there has been no development on it as of yet, instead the Peruvians are interested in modernizing [their] T-55 tanks,” Anatoly Punchuk said.
The Peruvian military currently has up to 200 T-55 tanks in service.
