The feline residents of the zoo in Altay region of Russia's Siberia are being given the opportunity to try living like humans for a while: scientists from the biological faculty of the regional university have a special treat planned for the cats to ease their habitation in captivity, including the opportunity to sleep on feather-filled pillows.

The evening of the 16th will be a special one for feline residents of the zoo in Russia's Altay region in Siberia.

Tigers, lions, leopards and lynxes will have the opportunity to enjoy a new form of entertainment. In addition to other amenities, the scientists of the regional university will offer the big kitties feather-filled pillows to sleep on.

They aim to improve the psychic health of the animals, and maximize the comfort they experience while living in captivity.

The short-lived project will be part of a wider event, “Night at the Zoo”, which, in turn, is part of Museum Night, which will be held all across Russia on Saturday evening.

Museums all over the country will keep their doors open until the early hours of Sunday morning, welcoming visitors free of charge to see their usual exhibits and putting on special after-hours events, such as the one in the Altai zoo.

A group of scientists from the local university will entertain the cats every hour, bringing in some sort of device. The last one will be a large feather-filled pillow for the animals to rest on.

The scientists are also set to work with smaller cats – jungle cats and Far Eastern forest cats, which are usually afraid of large crowds of people. Events involving bears and wolves are also on agenda.
