MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The US-led anti-Islamic State (ISIL) militant group coalition has carried out 26 airstrikes in Syria and Iraq against the insurgents' positions, the coalition announced Sunday.
The air raids were carried out between 8 a.m., (05:00 GMT) May 16, and 8 a.m., May 17 local time.
In Syria, the attacks destroyed several ISIL fighting positions, vehicles, explosives and weapons.
In Iraq, the air strikes destroyed the Islamic State weaponry, buildings, fighting positions, vehicles, explosives and resupply structures.
The Islamic State extremist group has seized vast territories across Syria and Iraq, gaining notoriety for its brutal methods, including mass executions.
The US-led coalition has been carrying airstrikes against the Islamic State positions since August 2014, and expanded the air campaign to Syria in September 2014, albeit without the approval of the Syrian government.
