Queen Elizabeth will visit the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp Bergen-Belsen during her state visit to Germany next month, Buckingham Palace announced.

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II will be traveling with her husband Prince Philip to visit the remains of the Bergen-Belsen camp. More than 50,000 people from across Europe along with 20,000 prisoners of war died at the camp between 1941 and 1945 but it may be best known for being the location where Anne Frank died. Frank, the teenage Jewish diarist, succumbed to of typhus there in 1945.

British forces liberated Bergen-Belson and took the first photographs of the horrors, the first visual proof of the Holocaust.

German President Joachim Gauck paid tribute to the British, American and Russian liberators.

The royals’ will visit Germany between June 24 to 26 and are expected to join Chancellor Angela Merkel at a state banquet.
