An MV-22 Osprey from the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit experienced a "hard landing" while conducting training at the Marine Corps Training Area at Bellows, the military announced.
The aircraft had 21 people on board when it went down around 11 a.m., sources said. Twelve marines are hospitalized, according to the military, and emergency crews including firefighters dispatched earlier remain at the scene of the incident.
The cause of the accident at the military reservation used primarily as a training facility for the Marine Corps and other US forces is still unclear.
