MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Team Canada won the final match against Russia with the score of 6-1 on Sunday, becoming the world champion. Russian players left the ice after the awards ceremony, prior to the recital of the national anthem of Canada.
"I will go back to the office tomorrow and we will discuss that and for sure we will take some sanctions [against the Russian Ice Hockey Federation]. We will see what is possible to do, but I will personally look that there are sanctions," Fasel said.
He stressed that the Russian team’s behavior went against the rules of fair play and was a sign of disrespect to the game.
"This is not acceptable, this is a lack of respect to the opponent team. I was very disappointed,” the president added.
The 2015 ice hockey World Championship was held from May 1 to May 17, 2015 in the Czech Republic.
