About 500 people – both civilians and soldiers – were killed in the past three days after ISIL forces took control over the Iraqi city of Ramadi, the capital of Anbar province, Muhannad Haimour, spokesperson for the Anbar governor, said.
"We do not have an accurate count yet," he said. "We estimate that 500 people have been killed, both civilians and military, and approximately 8,000 have fled the city."
According to some local officials, bodies, some burned, were scattered on the city streets as militants carried out mass killings of Iraqi forces and civilians.
In April, according to the UN, 144,000 residents fled from Ramadi and surrounding villages at the height of the violence.
