MOSCOW (Sputnik) – A 6.0-magnitude earthquake has occurred off the coast of the Kingdom of Tonga, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reports.
The epicentre of the quake was located 128 kilometres (80 miles) west of Pangai at a depth of around 180 kilometres (112 miles), USGS said on Wednesday.
No immediate information on casualties or damages was available after the earthquake, which took place at 13:30 local time on Wednesday (00:30 GMT).
Earthquakes of a 6.0 magnitude and above are considered strong and can lead to human casualties and the destruction of infrastructure.
Tonga was hit by a magnitude 6.5 quake in April and another one of the same magnitude in November, 2013.
