MEXICO (Sputnik) — At least 18 people were killed in Colombia as a result of airstrikes against the positions of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebel group, Caracol TV channel reported.
The rebels' camp in Cauca, southwestern Colombia, was bombarded by the Colombian Air Force, the channel reported Thursday. At least two rebels were killed.
Military confrontation between FARC and the Colombian government has been ongoing since 1964. Up to 220,000 people have been killed as a result of the armed conflict.
In March, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos ordered a temporary halt to the bombing after the FARC forces declared a unilateral ceasefire December 2014 and stood by it. In April, the suspension was lifted.
Since 2012, the sides have been engaged in peace talks that are mostly held in Cuba.
