NEW YORK (Sputnik) — The son of the former president of Honduras was arrested in Haiti on cocaine trafficking charges and transferred to the United States on request by US authorities, according to US federal prosecutors.
“Fabio Porfirio Lobo was arrested in the Republic of Haiti and brought to the United States on charges that he conspired to import cocaine into the United States,” the US Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of New York said in a statement on Friday.
“The arrest of Fabio Porfirio Lobo proves, once again, that no one is above the law,” US Drug Enforcement Agent in Charge Mark Hamlet said in the statement.
According to the criminal indictment unsealed by the US Attorney’s Office, Lobo allegedly conspired to import cocaine for distribution in the United States from 2009 to 2014.
On Friday, Lobo was arraigned before a US Judge in New York City and faces numerous conspiracy charges. If convicted, he may be sentenced to a maximum sentence of life in prison.
