MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian boxer Alexander Povetkin defeated Cuban Mike Perez on Friday in the first round, knocking him down in just over 90 seconds.
Povetkin managed to put Perez down on the canvas with a right hand to his head.
With this win, Povetkin has kept his WBC Silver heavyweight champion title and became the WBC mandatory challenger to heavyweight champion Deontary Wilder.
Thirty-five-year-old Povetkin won 29 out of 30 professional fights in his career, including 21 knockouts. The only fight that he lost was against Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko in 2013.
Povetkin is currently rated number 1 in the WBC heavyweight rating.
Povetkin is also the Athens-2004 Olympic champion.
