WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Lucrative profits are more important for US agro-giant Monsanto than concern about its products’ threats to human health, March Against Monsanto (MAM) Harrisburg representative told Sputnik.
“Until all consumable items are labelled, we will protest unjust corporatism because money matter more than people [to Monsanto],” he said on Friday.
The MAM Harrisburg representative argued Americans should have detailed and complete information about the ingredients of Monsanto’s food products.
“We believe it is a fundamental right for each and every American to be totally aware of what they consume,” he said.
Another MAM spokesman, Brian Loma in Denver, explained that the Saturday protest would also highlight the plight of bees at risk from Monsanto’s herbicides and pesticides.
Earlier on Friday, Monsanto Company spokesperson Charla Lord told Sputnik that the company welcomed the input from protesters about their products.
Monsanto is a $20 billion company with 22,000 employees in 61 countries. The company is the world’s leading producer of genetically engineered seeds and chemical herbicides.
