MOSCOW (Sputnik) – A record number of recommendations from the United Nations to the United States on human rights signifies problems in this area, Russian Foreign Ministry's Human Rights Ombudsman Konstantin Dolgov said Monday.
"UN Human Rights Council has recently submitted a record number of critical recommendations to the United States – 348! This is a sign of big and acute problems in the United States with human rights and the rule of law," Dolgov said on his Twitter account.
On May 11, the United States was subject to the Universal Periodic Review, which is a look at UN member states' human rights record, conducted every four years.
During the latest review, the United States was criticized for its continued use of the death penalty, racial profiling by US police, mass surveillance activities, and the fact that the Guantanamo Bay detention camp has still not been closed.
