MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The drills will assess the ability to deliver airstrikes against extremist bases using experience of the United States and its coalition allies in Iraq and Syria, Deputy Chief of the Russian General Staff, Lt. Gen. Andrei Kartapolov, told RIA Novosti.
"The drills will assess the ability of the district to counter air threats and, most importantly, to deliver airstrikes against extremist bases using experience of the United States and its coalition allies in Iraq and Syria."
"The potential threats and challenges to military security of Russia and its allies coming from the Central-Asian strategic direction have grown significantly," Kartapolov said.
