MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to police sources cited in the media, the move was designed to avoid a repeat of the anti-capitalist protests that occurred during the previous G7 foreign ministers' meeting in mid-April. In that instance, Luebeck police detained 16 protesters for attempting to break through the ring of encirclement.
Meanwhile, the Stop G7 Elmau group announced last week that it was planning an action near Elmau protesting against G7 policies, including militarization and war, the exploitation of nature, refugee policies.
The protests are seen as part of a broader movement for social justice.
There are usually no border checks between the countries, which are parties to the Schengen agreement, but temporary exceptions may be introduced in the case of an emergency.
