Air defense units from Russia’s Central Military District have been re-deployed to the Kapustin Yar and Ashuluk testing ranges, located in the Astrakhan region in the country’s south, as part of a snap combat-readiness check, the Russian Defense Ministry’s press service said Wednesday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The four-day snap military exercises, ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin, began on Monday.
“The air defense units involved in the snap inspection of the Central Military District’s aviation grouping and air defense troops have completed redeployment to the designated areas at the Kapustin Yar and Ashuluk testing ranges,” the press release read.
Some 12,000 servicemen, 250 aircraft and almost 700 pieces of military hardware are taking part in the drills.
