Weapons, explosives and materials that could be used to make bombs were seized during a counterterrorism operation in southern France.
Officers from the French counter-terrorism and intelligence agencies, as well as local police raided a villa in the seaside resort of Biarritz on suspicion that the owners were linked to the ETA, an armed Basque nationalist group.The couple, who own the villa, were detained.
Earlier this year, Sabin Mendizabal Plazaola, one of the most wanted ETA members was arrested in southwestern France.
