MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The last leader of the Soviet Union lamented that he "is not getting out of hospitals."
In recent years, Gorbachev has been treated in Germany. He suffers from a severe form of diabetes.
"Over the last seven days, my health condition was more or less satisfactory, but today I am in the hospital. There has been a disease recurrence," 84-year-old Gorbachev said.
Mikhail Gorbachev was the first and last president of the Soviet Union.
He announced his resignation in December 1991, after 11 of the former Soviet republics had established the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), effectively dismantling the USSR.
