What NOT to do With an Oil Fire

Subscribe
Here's why you shouldn't throw water onto burning oil.

Known on Youtube as the Slo Mo guys, Gavin Free and Daniel Gruchy start this video by instructing their audience not to throw water on an oil fire. And in case we needed proof, the two put together a quick — and explosive — demonstration.

It takes about 20 minutes for the oil to catch. Standing behind a turned desk, Free uses a metal grabber to pour a mug of water into the oil, jumping back just as the pot explodes.

With the demonstration out of the way, the two then go on to tell their audience about safer methods to put out these kinds of fires, which can happen frequently in the kitchens of bad cooks.
