Philip Lee Harvey a British photographer, recipient of numerous awards, including the prestigious Travel Photographer of the Year 2014, has worked in over 120 countries, in environments ranging from Antarctica to the Sahara desert. The photographs of Yemen and its island of Socotra, Harvey took on a trip organized by Lonely Planet Traveller magazine, reflect the breathtaking beauty of this country, inspiring travelers to visit it. In this light, the recent hostilities in the country and advice by foreign offices against traveling to Yemen seems even more unfortunate.

"I had always wanted the chance to photograph the historic city of Sanaa, in Yemen. My opportunity came after shooting a feature about the Island of Socotra. Our travel arrangements meant that we would have one night in Sanaa.

"I scouted the highest hotel rooftop I could find and booked us in to get an overview of the city. Few places ever live up to your expectations, but witnessing such a timeless scene during the mosque's call to prayer, is unforgettable."
