VILNIUS (Sputnik) — The amendments should help win "the information war to ensure the national security of the country and to claim greater responsibility of the Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT)," the press release reads.
Any information that is considered doubtful or incorrect, as well as the information that threatens or humiliates the Lithuanian statehood, must be fought, according to the new legislation.
Earlier this year, a number of European countries, including Lithuania, have repeatedly accused Russian media of a biased interpretation of events in crisis-hit Ukraine. To date, the majority of the Russian television channels have been banned in Lithuania.
On Thursday, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius said the European Union would soon be able to take more action to win the so-called information war with Russia.
