Nigeria's New President Vows to Defeat Boko Haram
Nigeria’s newly elected President Muhammadu Buhari promised to counter the most urgent challenges confronting the nation, including Boko Haram insurgency and poverty during an inauguration speech on Friday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Addressing the crowd at the Eagle Square in the capital of Abuja, Buhari added that victory over Boko Haram is impossible without release of more than 200 Nigerian girls kidnapped by the militants in April 2014.
"The most immediate is Boko Haram’s insurgency. Progress has been made in recent weeks by our security forces but victory can not be achieved by basing the Command and Control Centre in Abuja. The command centre will be relocated to Maiduguri and remain until Boko Haram is completely subdued," Buhari said in a speech published on the local news24 Nigeria website.
