Assyrian Christian Fighter Beheads ISIL Militant ‘in Revenge for Abuses’

A Christian resistance fighter from the Assyrian minority group allegedly beheaded a member of the Islamic State (IS) militant organization in northwestern Syria, a watchdog said late Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which is a UK-based monitor, claimed the incident happened in an Assyrian village near the village of Tal Tamer, in the Hasakah province. The province is home to the ancient Christian minority of Assyrians and has been regularly targeted by IS in its fight against infidels.

The IS militant was arrested by troops of the Kurdish people’s army YPG, the Observatory said. The man who took him prisoner beheaded him "in revenge for abuses committed by the group in the region," the Guardian cited Observatory spokesman Rami Abdel Rahman as saying Friday.

The Observatory also cited unidentified local sources that claimed anti-IS resistance forces had been executing Arab civilians in the village of Abo Shakhat in Hasaka countryside, and bulldozing homes allegedly belonging to IS fighters in Tal Tamer and Ras Ayn. These reports have not been independently verified.
