ZURICH (Sputnik) — Two senior FIFA executives, Jeffrey Webb and Eugenio Figueredo, both arrested on a US corruption warrant, were dismissed as vice presidents of the organization, according to a list of committees participants published by FIFA on Saturday.
Earlier on Friday, Webb, the president of the Confederation of North, Central America and the Caribbean Football Association (CONCACAF), was temporarily suspended as the body's head.
On Wednesday, the US Justice Department unsealed an indictment charging 14 defendants — among them top FIFA executives — with racketeering and money laundering as well as taking about $150 million in bribes and kickbacks. Seven of the defendants were arrested in Zurich, Switzerland at the request of the US authorities.
The scandal prompted numerous calls, including from the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), to postpone the elections of the FIFA's president.
However, the election was held Friday as planned and four-time President Joseph Blatter, 79, was reelected to head the international football governing body until 2019.
