At least 2,005 people have already been killed by the ongoing heat wave in India, according to the authorities.
The southern states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were hardest hit by the disaster; the death toll in those states alone currently stands at 1,979. Local authorities have launched public education campaigns to brief the population on how to tackle the heat.
In 1998, about 2,541 people died due to extreme temperatures in India, the highest death toll in the country's history.
