“I am astonished by how they managed to show this incredible depth of emotions through dance,” Vera Kazakova, who was in the audience during the Saturday showing, said. “I am simply delighted by the performance.”
The Eifman Ballet Company, which is currently on a major North American tour, premiered its ballet about the complicated relationship between French sculptor Auguste Rodin and his muse Camille Claudel in Washington, DC on Friday.
Company’s Deputy Director of touring and external affairs German Gureev told Sputnik on Saturday that the premier was very successful and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts was full.
On Saturday, the center was filled with people once again. Among them was 12-year-old Maria Nikulina, who came to the ballet with her family and friends.
“They [the company] tour the world,” Nikulina said. “It is very good that they are here now, and we have an opportunity to see the performance.”
The Eifman Ballet Company is visiting the United States for the 14th time. It has already performed in such US cities as Boston, Chicago and New York.
Balletomane Kazakova said she has been following the work of Boris Eifman, the ballet company’s director, since 1970s.
“We watch all his [Eifman’s] ballets, everything he brings here,” she said. “Every time it is something really special, like a celebration.”
Theater technician Heather Koslov, who came to watch “Rodin” upon advice of her fried, told Sputnik that all aspects of the performance impressed her.
“From the technical aspect, it is really well executed: everything is very smooth,” Koslov said.
“I really admire the mix of contemporary and classic in both movement and design,” she added.
The last showing of “Rodin” in the Washington, DC’s John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts will take place on May 31, after which the Eifman Ballet will travel to Costa Mesa and Los Angeles, California.
The next company’s visit to the United States is tentatively scheduled for 2017.
