MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia’s Maria Sharapova was unable to defend her title at the French Open, losing to the Czech Republic’s Lucie Safarova, R-Sport reported on Monday.
Sharapova, seeded number two, was defeated by Safarova, seeded number 13, at 6:7 (3:7), 4:6 in two sets.
Safarova’s opponent in the quarterfinals will be Spain’s Garbiñe Muguruza, seeded number 21.
